Sharing the joy of Chinese New Year with Bethel Home residents
In the spirit of the Year of the Rooster, the Ivorycares team visited Bethel Home on Katz Street and Cecil Street on Jan 17.
The team brought daily necessities such as cooking essentials, groceries, household washing supplies and CNY cookies.
To add on to the festive cheer, the members performed a few dance routines for the old folks, in which they responded with thunderous applause.
Before ending the visit, the residents and caregivers of Bethel Home were also given ang pow (red packets) by the volunteers, wishing them well for the year ahead.
It was definitely a warm and joyous occasion as the residents were touched by the generosity and care shown to them.
Chinese New Year goods distribution at the House of Hope
It did not take long for the House of Hope to be packed with old folks, as the Ivorycares team distributed festive goodies on Jan 20.
Goods packaging was also conducted with the help of several volunteers from the House of Hope, and in no time the distribution began.
There were smiles on each and every one’s faces as they received the generous help needed for the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The team also did not forget to send their festive greetings by wishing each and every old folk “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and a great year ahead.
CNY Reunion Meals with Senior Citizens
In conjunction with the celebration of Chinese New Year, Ivorycares together with MBI Charity 100 brought festive cheer to the residents of Lotus Old Folks Home, Relau Rumah Charis and Gan En Zhi Jia during Chinese New Year.
The team treated the residents with a steamboat meal, as well as the traditional tossing of yee sang to signify an auspicious year ahead.
The kind efforts from the team brought much joy to the old folks as they shared the joyous moments together.
Volunteers of Ivorycares recorded an increase in their contribution in terms of food and drinks served to the Thaipusam devotees on Feb 8 this year.
The management and staff of Ivory Properties Group Berhad gathered in front of Penang Times Square on Jalan Datuk Keramat to welcome the chariots. The volunteers served 2,500 packets of vegetarian food and also donated 1,800 coconuts to the devotees and the public during the procession.
With thousands of devotees joined by tourists in smashing of the coconuts, it was a joyous atmosphere as the chariots slowly inched their way through the sea of smashed coconuts along the route.
The annual celebration is incorporated with elements of multiculturalism like the lion dance, peacock dance and bommai dance which added to the merriment of the celebration.
Visitation to Penang General Hospital
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year month, Ivorycares and MBI Charity 100 volunteers visited Penang General Hospital on Feb 17. The group distributed red packets to 500 patients in the hospital wards, walk-in patients, doctors and nurses.
After the red packet distribution, the group proceeded to donate 15 reclining wheelchairs and 30 units of ripple mattresses to the Social Welfare Department of the hospital in aid of the needy patients. Present at the handing over ceremony were Director of Penang General Hospital Dato’ Dr Norsidah Ismail, Chairman of the Visitors Board of Penang General Hospital Mr Lim Thoon Deong, MBI Charity 100’s representatives Mr Alan Tan and Mr Roger, and President of Ivorycares Dato’ Ooi Chin Loo.
In-House Bowling Tournament
The Ivorycares Bowling Competition is back again this year!
Pins crashing and loud cheering were heard during the Ivorycares Bowling Championship at the Classic Bowl Family Entertainment Centre, Prangin Mall that was held on Feb 23. The event commenced at 7.30pm with participants retrieving rental shoes and choosing of the most suitable bowling balls for their game.
With only a RM15 registration fee, 40 participants competed in the tenpin bowling competition in teams of five aiming to win the grand prize of RM100 cash for first place and RM70 for second place.
Participating teams were praised for their teamwork and participation in the competition. The event was held with a purpose to encourage social interactions amongst Ivorians while achieving results through strategy planning and team support.
International Women’s Day Celebration
International Women’s Day falls on March 8 and the Corporate Communications Department had always organised activities to mark this special occasion – especially the sale of flowers in appreciation of all the ladies. Each stalk of carnation with a mini wishing card was sold at RM5, with all proceeds from the sale channelled towards the charitable works of Ivorycares. The carnations were delivered by the Corporate Communications’ angels to all the receivers on that day.
There was also a Pledge and Dedication Board located on Level 1, Ivory Tower with the theme this year #BeBoldForChange. The board was for the ladies to write down their resolutions of the year, and off course for men to also write their dedications for their special women in thanking and wishing them well during this special occasion.

House of Hope Monthly Goods Distribution
Every First Friday(March)
The monthly goods distribution to 100 old folks at House of Hope, Penang is held on the first Friday of every month since 2016.
The volunteers from Ivorycares and MBI’s Charity 100 arrived at 11am and distributed daily groceries such as rice, noodles, oats, milo, kopi ‘o’, biscuits, and a variety of canned food to the old folks.
Visitation to Relau Rumah Charis
On March 21, members of Ivorycares together with MBI’s Charity 100 gathered again to spread love and warmth to the old folks of Relau Rumah Charis. The team brought daily groceries for the home as well as served fruits to the old folks as they were enjoying their brunch.

On March 27, the angels of Ivorycares and MBI’s Charity 100 members arrived at Penang Shan Children’s Association at 4pm to deliver groceries to the children’s home. At the same time, a simple house cleaning was carried out by the volunteers as well. It was a fun-filled afternoon for the volunteers and the children as they bond with each other through chit-chatting, colouring activities and doing school homework.
Visitation to Relau Rumah Charis
On April 4, the “Dark Knights” were back in town to feed the homeless. The team gathered at Penang Times Square and moved 120 packs of food and beverages and daily necessities into cars at 10pm and started the distribution in groups to the homeless around Komtar area.

The “Wednesday Healthy Lunch Programme” was launched by Ivorycares on April 5. This programme is a collaboration between Ivorycares and The Leaf Healthy House to promote a healthy lunch lifestyle in the office as well as to raise funds for Ivorycares. The healthy lunch box is priced at RM11.90 each and orders are open every Monday and closes at 2pm on Tuesday.
The lunch box will be delivered on Wednesday at 12 noon. We would like to thank all the Ivorians who have placed orders with us and we hope to have your continuous support so we can continue this meaningful programme.
World Health Day – Break Free & Stress Free Hike
In conjunction with the World Health Day, Ivorycares organised a hiking event at Youth Park for Ivorians on April 8. The purpose of the hike was not only to create health awareness among colleagues but also to have fun at a stress release activity during the weekend. Breakfast was also provided for all the hikers at Garden Paradis and a lucky draw session was held as a token of appreciation to the participants.
Ocean Awareness Project by USM’s Scuba Diving Club
It was a beautiful Saturday morning on April 29 when Ivorycares members drove all the way up to Batu Ferringhi beach to participate in an ocean awareness project organised by USM’s Scuba Diving Club. This is their annual project and it is the second year Ivorycares has taken part in it. The volunteers were divided into teams and each team was given an instruction to clean up the beach as much as possible and then segregate the waste into recyclable and non-recyclable bins. After the hectic cleaning session, a simple lunch was served by the organiser as a token of gratitude for everyone who contributed that day.
Blood Donation Campaign
The blood donation campaign is an annual activity oganised by Ivorycares. This year, the campaign was jointly organised with MBI Charity 100 in aid of Penang General Hospital’s blood bank. The campaign was held on May 20 at the MMall O2O main concourse from 11am to 4pm. Members and the public were encouraged to donate blood and information about the importance of donating blood to help others were also shared. With early planning and information dissemination through posters and social networking sites, it made the campaign a successful one with overwhelming response from the public.

Chinese New Year Celebration with Gan En Zhi Jia Home
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, Ivorycares volunteers organised a steamboat dinner for the elderly residents of the Gan En Zhi Jia Home for the Senior Citizens on Feb 17. Joined in by the home’s caretakers, residents were all smiles and excited as they tossed the “yee sang” before tucking into their scrumptious dinner.
The main aim of the charity event was to embrace the spirit of Chinese New Year by spreading joy through gatherings and reunions.
Ivorycares presented over RM5,000 worth of daily essential items such as groceries, adult diapers and various household supplies to the home. Besides that, Ivorycares volunteers were also given a tour around the home and were invited to join in the dinner with the residents and caretakers.
The dinner and daily essential items were donated by generous Ivorians and volunteers.
#Pledge for Parity to accelerate gender equality
The “Pledge for Parity” project was rolled out internally for fellow Ivorians to make a pledge in support of International Women’s Day for 2016.
Parity, which means equality, was chosen as the driving force for this year’s campaign to celebrate the achievements of women and their contributions to the society.
The project was well-supported by fellow Ivorians. Staff members dropped by the booth in the office lobby and pledged to be part of this worldwide effort. Every pledge counts as they were posted on the International Women’s Day website at (http://www.internationalwomensday.com/).

World Health Day 2016 @ Penang Municipal Park
April 7 is internationally recognised as World Health Day. This year, the theme is focused on curbing diabetes. The diabetes epidemic is rapidly increasing in many countries but fortunately the disease is treatable.
To help inculcate a healthy lifestyle, Ivorycares organised a hike up to Station Three on March 19 (Saturday) as part of the global health awareness effort. The main aim of the event was to promote a healthy lifestyle and workplace harmony among Ivorians through outdoor activities. The event garnered a good response from fellow Ivorians. Some of them also brought along their friends and family members. It was a rare occasion for Ivorians to meet for leisure outside of work and the event also managed to strike up a friendship or two during the hike.
Lucky participants also won some amazing lucky draw prizes during brunch at the Garden Paradise Café on Waterfall Road after the hike.
Car Boot Sale-Putting a heart on a CAR
Collectibles, preloved items, handicrafts, accessories, assortment of perfumes plus a variety of food and beverages – throngs of visitors were eager to chance a bargain at the Ivorycares Charity Car Boot Sale.
The car boot sale was aimed to raise funds to support Ivorycares’ future charitable events. Besides fundraising, the objective of the sale was also to instill an earth-saving mindset in the public through recycling, reducing waste and space. At the event, the public got to put their mind at ease when it came to discarding items that are no longer useful to them but are still in good conditions.
The event managed to raise RM1,060 from lot rental collection over the two-day sale.
World Book Day
Hearts from “A Library of Hope”
In conjunction with the World Book Day which falls on Apr 23 each year, Ivorycares teamed up with Penang Press Club in organising “A Library of Hope” at Marrybrown, The Latitude in Mount Erskine, Penang.
“A Library of Hope” engaged a total of 50 children from three different homes with the aim to inculcate reading habit. Any children should have good books to explore and be exposed to the beauty of literacy. Without literal knowledge, the young generation might face unverifiable future, as education is important for a better prospect. Incorporating games and story-telling to make learning more interesting, the children cheered and described their creative imagination at the end of the day as they digged into their lunch provided by Marrybrown.
Ivorycares kicks off inaugural Movie Night with different series of movies
Ivorycares Movie Night is held on the last Monday of every month at the auditorium, Ivory Tower. The purpose of the movie night is for Ivorians to get together after working hours. Every month, a list of movies will be circulated to all Ivorians and the movie with the highest vote will be played during the Ivorycares Movie Nights. Many Ivorians came to unwind and shared their excitement together after a hectic working Monday.
Health Screening 2.0
To sustain a healthy lifestyle, our charitable arm, Ivorycares organised a health screening programme specially for Ivorians. The programme was aimed to spread awareness to Ivorians the importance of keeping their health in check.
The event, carried out by Penang Adventist Hospital was planned annually for the staff’s benefit. The results from the screening will be kept for monitoring purposes in the following years.
Complimentary Family Photo Shoot in conjunction with Parents’ Day
To bring up a precious moment on Parents’ Day, Ivorycares came up with a complimentary family photo shoot at Marrybrown, The Latitude. Marrybrown provided happy meals to each member of the families that participated in the photo shoot. The session was only limited for the first 30 families that successfully registered with us online and offline. The celebration was a big success. Multiracial families joined the event even though it was Ramadan month. From the 30 families, the most lovely and attractive family photo, was selected to win a complimentary family photo shoot sponsored by Mr & Mrs Maison Bridal House.
Hari Raya Puasa
Fortune in Ramadhan
Hope, joy and love were shared by Ivorycares to help the underprivileged families at Masjid Kampung Jawa Baru during the month of Ramadhan.
The Ivorycares and Penang Times Square shopping complex management teamed up and distributed goodie bags comprising daily essential items, festive delicacies as well as green packets to each family. Our Muslim employees also joined the event especially during iftar session with the families.
The families were served with Malay cuisine by the members of Ivorycares during the iftar session. Their faces were filled with joy and grateful smiles after receiving the gifts from Ivorycares.
Fortune in Ramadan Kareem
Hope, joy and love were shared by Ivorycares to help the underprivileged families at Masjid Kampung Jawa Baru during the month of Ramadan.
Ivorycares volunteers and Penang Times Square shopping complex management teamed up and distributed goodie bags comprising daily essential items, festive delicacies as well as green packets to the 10 selected families. Our Muslim employees also joined the event during iftar session with the families on June 25.
Ivorycares treats school students with Marrybrown lunch
Ivorycares volunteers distributed delectable Marrybrown meals to the students and teachers of SJK(C) Poay Wah in Tanjung Bungah on July 18. The initiative was done to treat the students of the school for their hard work.
Ivorycares president Dato’ Ooi Chin Loo said he was pleased Ivorycares had the opportunity to go to the school and meet with the students.
The volunteers also distributed balloons and lunch packs to the students who beamed with joy upon receiving the gifts. Chipmunk, the Marrybrown mascot was also present to entertain the students who were excited to take photos with it.
Relay For Life
Relay For Life is a chance for the public to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as those who care for them. Relay also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer.
Ivorycares teamed up with Relay For Life, Penang in recruiting participants for the campaign. The event started in the evening of July 23 and ends the following morning at Taman Penbandaran Pulau Pinang. Many Ivorians signed up for the campaign.
Nur Hafizah from the Accounts Department said it was a good campaign where participants had the opportunity to donate funds and gained awareness about cancer.
Food fair and entertainment showcase were held during the night. The communities were allowed to stay for the night if they want to.
Penang Cheshire Home and Eden Handicapped Service Centre
A visitation by the Ivorycares and MBI Charity 100 team was carried out on July 28 at the Penang Cheshire Home serving the physically disabled in Penang. It provides daycare and various activities and facilities for the residents. The team managed to get closer with the less fortunate by exposing themselves to do their daily routine.
On the same day, the team also visited Eden Handicapped Service Centre. The team distributes the daily essential items to the organisation. The team was briefed by one of the volunteers of the organization on the work that are being carried out by the disabled. The team also bought handicrafts such as magnets, key chains, earrings, and DIY flower pots that were made by the disabled.

On August 3, the team is back to the House of Hope in Rifle Range, Air Itam. House of Hope aims to break the cycle of poverty by meeting their critical needs and giving the people hope for a better future.
The team arrived in the morning in order to conduct goods packaging. They were assisted by the volunteers of the House of Hope and the distribution started at 1:30 pm. The team later enjoyed a heartening lunch there with some of the recipients.
The Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home
Happiness and joy was plastered on the faces of the children at The Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home; the children's residential home provides love, care, shelter and protection to children in the state.
Daily essential items were distributed to the home which included butter, milk, cultured milk drink and many more. The team also got a chance to know the children and their pets at the home.
Merdeka Outfit Celebration
In conjunction with Malaysia’s Independence Day, Ivorycares organised an event called “Merdeka Outfit Celebration”. This initiative was carried out to share the joy and smiles with all employees and strengthen the bond among staff at Ivory Properties.
The event encouraged all employees to wear Malaysian cultural outfits to work. A photoshoot session was held in front of the Corporate Communications Department.
Aisyah Syahirah from the Interior Designs Department said it was a good opportunity to “beautify” Ivory Tower with exquisite cultural outfits.
“It would be nice if Ivorycares would make it an annual event. Everyone had a great time together,” she said.
Procurement Department is the most stunning department. The department is featured on the front page of Ivorian newsletter.
Ivorycares Back to Host Charity Walk at Penang Starwalk 2016
Ivorycares, the charitable arm of Ivory Properties Group Berhad, again hosted the 1km charity walk called “Walk With Us” in this year’s Penang Starwalk 2016 on September 11. Ivorycares members led the walk, in which other corporate companies and charity organisations took part as well. Goodie bags and breakfast sets were provided to the charity walk participants.
Ivorycares president Dato’ Ooi Chin Loo said “Walk With Us” is an opportunity for the companies to foster closer ties with the charity organisations.
“Even though it is a shorter walk at 1km, the participants from the organisations get to join this event and admire the heritage city of George Town,” he said.
Ivorycares also gave out free gift to participants, who “liked” Ivory Properties Facebook page. Among the freebies given out were tumblers, T-shirts, pendrives, mugs, keychain and drinking water.
Beach Cleaning Event at Kampung Nelayan, Teluk Kumbar
On September 24, a beach cleaning program was carried out at the Kampung Nelayan Beach, Teluk Kumbar. The program was conducted in collaboration between Ivorycares and MBI Charity 100 group which was also attended by Mr Boey Chee Kun, the chief operating of shopping complex management.
Cason Khor from Sales and Marketing Department said that Ivorians should contribute by taking part in charity work.
“This charity work can educate our citizens about environmental conservation too,” he said.
The team gathered at 8:30 in the morning before they were divided into several groups to start collecting garbage along the beach. Plastic garbage bags and gloves were distributed to ensure safety of participants. After the event, the garbage were collected and handled by the staff of Penang Island City Council (MBPP). There was also a group photo session before the event ended.

Feed the Homeless
On October 20, the team of Ivorycares and MBI Charity 100 volunteers is back in town in the evening as the “Dark Knights” to distribute food and beverages to the homeless in Komtar area.
The team gathered at Penang Times Square to move the packages into cars and departed to Komtar at 10pm and starts the distribution by groups. The team later gathered for dessert after the distribution.
Deepavali Rangoli Making
It’s another year for celebrating Deepavali which is a traditional and uniquely cultured festival celebrated by all Hindus. Also known as Diwali, this is a festival which spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, hence the ‘Festival of Lights’ term.
This round we were back again with creating the Rangoli, a traditional form of Indian art. We were having a six-foot Rangoli motif with peacock design, placed at the Ivory Sales Gallery’s centre court with different coloured rice provided in containers. This gave Ivorians the opportunity and convenience to try their hand at completing the Rangoli before work or during lunchtime.
Fellow Ivorians portrayed joy and teamwork while they concentrated on filling in the pattern with the rice. They cooperated with one another and displayed a mix of patience and enthusiasm, all the while trying to keep the rice within the lines.
Ivorycares would like to thank fellow Ivorians for their contributions in making the beautiful Rangoli and embracing the spirit of Deepavali. Also wishing all Hindus a very Happy Deepavali!
In conjunction with Deepavali celebration for the year of 2016, Ivorycares organized a Henna drawing for all Ivorians to enjoy the art drawing on hands. This activity starts from 10:30am to 4:00pm at Marketing Room 1, Ivory Tower.
A donation of RM5 was collected from each Ivorian that have participated in this mini fund raising activity. We have successfully raised a total of RM105.00, and the proceeds was then been channeled to Ivorycares’s fund.

Sponsor a Child Programme
This is a student-sponsoring programme where 18 needy students were selected from SJK(C) Poay Wah and SJK (C) Eok Hua.
Schooling items such as uniforms, shoes, school bags, book fees, stationary and etc were being sponsored to the 18 needy students.
On November 11, the team visited the two schools to meet up with the students to deliver the items to them.
World Children Day
On November 11, Ivorycares members has visited the Eden Handicap Service Centre children hostel to celebrate the World Children Day with them. We bought Marrybrown fast food and beverages and reached the hostel at 1pm.
The children was so excited and happy with the team arrival. Other from Marrybrown fast food, the team did brought along ballons to be distribute to the children; as well as a singing band were here together to sing for the children.
Although the happy moment was short, believed that everyone did have a sweet time with the home children.

Make A Wish Project
The project started on Nov 1 when over 1000 wishing cards from 11 children’s homes in Penang were collected and hung on Christmas trees at the M Mall O2O entrance for the public to help make the children’s wishes come true. After collecting all the gifts, we held a massive Christmas celebration on Dec 8 at the M Mall O2O concourse with the 1000 children from 10am to 530pm. During the celebration, we had Christmas carolers from Seventh Day Adventist Church to sing for the children, candy floss and balloons distribution, face painting as well as Mary Brown’s for the children.
We would like express our appreciation to all the Ivorycares volunteers who had spent their weekend to make this celebration a successful one. Last but not least, we would also like to thank all the Secret Santa for making the children’s wishes come true. We hope to see all of you again next coming Christmas.
Christmas Meals with Homes
On Dec 22, the team visited Cheshire Home Penang, The Salvation Army Home and Children’s Protection Society to have Christmas meals with the homes’ residents. The team brought over Mary Brown’s for lunch and tea break with them, played some games and even had Santa appear at the homes to distribute candies and gifts to them.
